It’s been one year since JMC Steel Group headquarters moved to Chicago and we’re proud of the Windy City’s steel skyline and its use of hollow structural sections (HSS).

If you are a member of the design/construction industry, then you are invited to attend Atlas Tube’s free Lunch & Learn event this Friday, September 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., as part of SteelDay 2012, an annual event sponsored by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).

At the event, I will premiere an ongoing educational video series on steel HSS. During my presentation, I will discuss HSS’ position as the material of choice for engineers designing for the future.

SteelDay is a great opportunity for those interested in steel construction to learn more about how HSS is produced and its remarkable design potential. Produced in round, square and rectangular shapes of sizes and gauges, HSS is used as a structural element in architecture and in a wide variety of manufactured products.

The video series, entitled “Designing with HSS,” was created to educate engineers and contractors about the many advantages of using HSS. They also serve to dispel some of the most common myths attributed to the product. By enlightening members in the industry about the core values of the product, I hope that this series will help you recognize the enormous potential HSS has now and in the future.

Following SteelDay, Atlas Tube will post the first videos in the HSS series on JMC Steel Group’s YouTube channel and here, on the Atlas blog. The multi-part HSS video series features HSS general properties, uses and applications, and the production of HSS. The video series is a living series and we are looking for additional topics to add as we move forward. If you have ideas for additional topics, please feel free to let us know.

The videos feature a wide range of topics related to steel HSS, providing an overview of the product’s benefits and uses in structural engineering and across the industry.
