Think ASTM A1085 For Structures with Dynamic Loading
You might already know that the steel used in bridges must meet the toughness requirements of ASTM A709 and AASHTO M270. If you design a bridge with ASTM A500 HSS, the sections will most likely have to be custom-manufactured to meet these requirements. That means higher costs, longer lead times and a higher minimum order quantity. Plus, you’ll have to spend extra time and money on testing to verify the toughness of the steel.
But if you design your bridge with ASTM A1085 HSS, you’ll know the steel automatically meets those Charpy V-notch requirements. The toughness is built in. That can mean significant savings for your project. Check out this video to learn more!
