A Look Into SteelDay 2013
Another SteelDay has come and gone, and, for the second year in a row, Atlas Tube hosted a successful event. During the event, I gave three one-hour presentations discussing HSS. Attendees learned about the benefits of HSS, the challenges of using HSS connections, and the strong impact that the new 1085 spec will have on the industry as a whole.
Presentation 1 – Introduction to HSS
I gave attendees a general introduction to Hollow Structural Sections. This presentation covered production of HSS, how it can be used in design and its different sizes.
Presentation 2 – HSS Connections
In the second presentation, we discussed the different types of connections that are associated with Hollow Structural Sections. Cast connections, plate connections and moment connections were among the various types mentioned throughout his talk. We will go into detail about these connections and their uses in later blog posts.
Presentation 3 – The New A1085 Spec
The final presentation focused on the new ASTM A1085 specification. I educated attendees about the new spec, as well as the unparalleled design advantages that it has for seismic and dynamic applications. Attendees of this presentation also received one Continuing Education (CE) credit.
We very much enjoyed being a part of the nationwide steel industry celebration, and we look forward to hosting another event in 2014!
