Sustainability is not just an issue for American businesses, it’s a global issue. With so many reports citing the excessive use of fossil fuels as the culprit of global warming and the depletion of nonrenewable energy resources, it’s safe to say yesterday was too late to start thinking about sustainable energy.

Luckily, we’ve been developing renewable energy resources for years, and energy companies are finally developing initiatives that many can actually afford. These efficient and renewable energy resources – solar, wind, geothermal, etc. – continue to be more affordable with the development of new technologies, government incentives and the investment in utility-scale projects.

Despite the advances we have made in developing renewable energy solutions, there are individuals in third world countries who live without access to the energy we don’t think twice about. The electricity and modern fuels for cooking we often take for granted.

In an attempt to create a world where sustainable energy exists for all, the World Bank and the Sustainable Energy for All initiative are committed to providing sustainable energy to the world by 2030. Their mission to provide energy access, energy efficiency and renewable energy to the world is outlined in the infographic below.

Taking the three objectives into serious consideration, as well as the advances we are continuing to make in efficient and renewable energies, I’m inclined to think we have a shot at achieving these objectives as a global community by 2030.
